Frankie & Benny's, Costa Coffee, Carphone Warehouse

Saunders developed the Western end of the car park at Flowerdown Retail Park to accommodate three A3 and A1 units over two Phases.

Phase 1  comprised new Frankie & Benny's and Costa Coffee units. Complex geometry underlies the striking forms of both units; the Frankie & Benny's consists of a faceted square plan with a butterfly roof rotated 45-degrees on plan. A feature mast sign frame was introduced to reference the maritime location. The Costa unit takes the form of a rectangular plan with faceted semi-circular opposing ends with a mono-pitch roof in the same shape. Both units were arranged around an attractive landscaped terrace and retained retail park totem sign.

Phase 2 provided an additional unit, for Carphone Warehouse, designed to unite the aesthetic of the three units.

Both phases required sensitive reordering of the existing car park circulation and parking, and to limit disruption to the use of the park while construction was carried out.
