Madeira Road

This project was conceived to enhance Bournemouth University’s Lansdowne Campus facilities and comprises 7-storeys with 210 student units built on an existing car park corner site. The ground floor consists of retail units for letting to the market together with operational car parking and secure and covered cycle parking.

The accommodation is divided into 6-person cluster flats with common room and cooking facilities and individual electronic access and security control. Also included are 24 studio units with integrated cooking facilities and wheelchair accessible studio units. En-suite shower pods were off-site pre-fabricated.

The building footprint at ground floor fills the site but above ground floor is split into two wings to provide natural lighting and ventilation to all rooms. At first floor a separate block incorporates a common room, laundry and gymnasium.

The walls are steel framed finished with through-coloured silicone resin render on high performance insulation to first to fourth floors and a set back zinc rain screen cladding system to fifth and sixth floors. Ground floor walls consist of facing brickwork, and glazed shop fronts. Photovoltaic panels at roof level will reduce the building carbon emissions.
