Horfield Leisure Centre

Bristol City Council’s flagship Leisure Centre is situated in North Bristol and complements the existing community sports facilities within the Authority.

The build comprised a new swimming pool and fitness gym, added to the existing and remodelled dry sports facility, and features a 25m, eight-lane competition swimming pool with moving floor, spectator seating, separate learner pool, fitness gym, café, and crèche. The existing sports hall and studio were also refurbished.

The main pool has been constructed to competition standards and incorporates a moving floor at the deep end so as to maximise flexibility through variable water depth.

The large amount of glazing allows views out and daylight to stream into the building. This includes the pool hall which, with its large span glue laminated timber structure and natural colour palette, provides an extremely pleasant ambience for swimmers and spectators alike.

The new leisure centre was opened by Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell MBE who expressed how pleased he was that this was a community facility accessible to all.
