Harlow Leisurezone

When it opened, Harlow Leisurezone, provided the local community with facilities for leisure, learning, sport, health and fitness, for the casual user and the elite athlete alike.  The mix of activities within the building was determined to achieve sustainability, both in terms of revenue generation and usage.

The scheme provides all new facilities including a 25m eight-lane competition pool with floating floor, separate learner/training pool, seating for 300 spectators, 8 badminton court sports hall, 3 court tennis hall, 4 squash courts, aerobics/dance studios, spinning studio, 275 station fitness gym, including physio and beauty treatment rooms, weights gym, health suite incorporating spa pools, steam room and saunas, conference and meeting rooms, day care nursery, café, bar lounge, and science alive educational activity centre.

High quality and durable materials from sustainable sources are used throughout the building. The building is energy efficient incorporating roof windcatchers for ventilation over the sports and tennis halls. CHP plant provides power and there is grey water utilization from the pools for flushing toilets.

As part of the Harlow Gateway Project, we were also involved in the provision of a new athletics track and 3000-seat football stadium replacing the existing facilities in the town. For more on this click here.
