Cannock Chase Leisure Centre
Saunders Architects were appointed by Cannock Chase District Council to design the refurbishment of Cannock Chase Leisure Centre, to update the facilities to meet the demands of the current leisure market.

Having looked at a number of feasibility options, including the demolition and replacement of the swimming pool, ultimately a constructed refurbishment scheme was the most feasible option. This project was then let as a design and build contract with ourselves being retained as architectural advisor to the Council.

The refurbishment included the re-modelling of the existing 33.3m 6-lane pool with the addition of a boom that subdivided the pool and a moving floor to allow variable depth to provide a 6-lane 25m competition pool and 13 x 7m variable depth pool.

Additional facilities provided were a 230-spectator viewing area, refurbishment of existing teaching pool, remodelled changing facilities with group changing rooms, a new curved roof over the pool and render to existing pool elevations, remodelling of entrance, foyer, cafe and offices, refurbishment of existing dry changing rooms, enlarged fitness suite with a dedicated fitness suite change facility, new studio and store, and a new sprung floor to the existing sports hall.
